Privacy Policy

Overview

Muraji ("we", "our", or "us") is a Quran memorization and revision app. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, and how long we keep it. We collect only what is necessary to provide the service.

Muraji is used in three ways, and the data involved differs for each:

  • Individual accounts — a person memorizing on their own, who signs up with their own email address.
  • Classrooms — a teacher, school, or masjid whose teachers create accounts for their students and track their progress.
  • Families — a parent who creates accounts for their own children and follows their progress.

Data We Collect From Individual Users

  • Account information — your email address and name, provided when you sign up or sign in with Google.
  • Review activity — which Quran passages you have memorized, your review history, difficulty ratings, and streak data. This is the core data needed to generate your review cycles.
  • App preferences — your review mode, notification settings, reminder time, and timezone. Stored to personalize your experience.
  • Subscription status — which plan you are on, if any, and its status. Payment is processed by Stripe (web) or through Apple/Google (app). We never receive or store your card details.
  • Push notification token — if you enable notifications, we store a device token to deliver reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings.
  • Device timezone — used to send notifications at the correct local time.

Student Accounts in Classrooms and Families

Student accounts work differently from individual accounts, and most students are children. Please read this section carefully if you are a teacher, school, or parent.

  • Students do not sign up themselves.A teacher or parent creates the account by entering the student's first name, last name, and a display name. Muraji generates a username and an initial password, which the teacher or parent passes to the student.
  • We do not collect a student's email address. Student logins use an internal placeholder address that cannot receive mail. We do not email students, and we do not ask students for contact details.
  • Memorization and review data— the same review history, ratings, and streak data described above, generated by the student's own use of the app.
  • Recitation records— when a teacher or parent listens to a student recite, they may record which passage was recited, a result of pass, needs work, or fail, and free-text notes. These notes are written by the teacher or parent and may describe the student's performance.
  • Assignments and announcements — the passages a teacher assigns, due dates, whether the student has completed them, and messages the teacher sends to the class.

We do not collect a student's date of birth, address, phone number, photograph, or audio recordings of their recitation. Muraji contains no advertising, and student data is never used for marketing or sold to anyone.

Children's Privacy

Muraji Classroom and the Muraji parent plan are intended to be used by children, including children under 13, under the supervision of a teacher, school, or parent. We collect the student information described above at the direction of that adult.

If you are a school, teacher, or institution:by creating student accounts, you confirm that you have the authority to do so and that you have obtained any parental consent required by the laws that apply to you. You act as the decision-maker for your students' data; we act as a service provider carrying out your instructions.

If you are a parent: you are providing consent directly for your own children when you create their accounts.

A parent may ask us to review, correct, or delete their child's data at any time by contacting us at the address below, or may ask their child's teacher, who can delete the account directly. Where the account was created by a school, we may ask you to raise the request through the school so we can confirm it is authorized.

Individual Muraji accounts, which are created by the account holder with their own email address, are not directed at children under 13.

Who Can See a Student's Data

  • The teacher who runs the student's class.
  • An administrator of the school or institution that class belongs to, across all of its classes.
  • A parent, for the children in their own family group.
  • Muraji staff, only where necessary to operate the service, investigate a problem, or comply with the law.

Students cannot see other students' review history or recitation records. Access is enforced in our database, not only in the app interface.

How We Use Your Data

  • To generate and manage Quran review cycles
  • To send reminder and streak protection notifications (if enabled)
  • To let teachers and parents assign work and track progress
  • To process and manage subscriptions
  • To display analytics, streaks, and achievements
  • To authenticate users securely

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties except as described below.

Third-Party Services

  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure.Privacy policy.
  • Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions. We share only what Stripe needs to process payments. Students are never involved in payment and their data is not sent to Stripe.Privacy policy.
  • RevenueCat — subscription management for in-app purchases on iOS and Android.Privacy policy.
  • Firebase Cloud Messaging— push notification delivery on Android. Notification tokens are transmitted through Google's FCM service.Privacy policy.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — push notification delivery on iOS.
  • Sentry — error monitoring to help us fix bugs. Error reports may include device type and app state but not personal data.Privacy policy.

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data and review history are permanently deleted within 30 days.

Archived students. A teacher or parent may archive a student instead of deleting them. An archived student keeps their data and can no longer log in, so that a student who leaves and returns does not lose their progress. Archived students are not deleted automatically. A teacher or parent may permanently delete an archived student at any time, which removes their account and review history within 30 days.

Students who keep their account. A student may add their own email address to convert their account into an ordinary individual Muraji account. Their memorization history stays with them, and their former teacher loses access.

When a teacher or parent deletes their account. Their classroom or family group is deleted with them, but their students' accounts are not. Each student keeps their account and has 14 days to add their own email address to keep it, as above. A student account that has not been claimed within 14 days is permanently deleted.

If a subscription ends, we retain the account data so it is intact if the subscription is renewed. You may ask us to delete it sooner.

Your Rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data at any time by contacting us. You can delete your account and all of your data yourself from the Settings page, under "Delete Account" — this is immediate and cannot be undone. If you are locked out of your account, email privacy@murajiapp.com instead; the full process is described on our account deletion page. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings. Teachers and parents can delete a student's account from their classroom or family dashboard.

Students in a classdo not have the Delete Account option while they are enrolled, because the account was created for them and forms part of their teacher's records. A student can ask their teacher or parent to delete it, or add their own email address in Settings to make the account their own — after which they can delete it themselves. A parent may also contact us directly to have their child's account deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your data, and we will honor them.

Changes to This Policy

If we make a significant change to how we handle personal data, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is material, notify account holders in the app.
